I just had my mind blown.
BOOM!
One of the most important icons of the innovation period of surfboard design, the Hot Buttered Drifta, Terry Fitzgerald's answer to Simon Anderson's Thruster and Geoff McCoy's Lazor Zap, the no nose double flyer widow maker just showed up ready for the show and shine at the Surf Swap 8 at Bondi pavilion on September 27th.
This rare and original example from 1981 - 82 is in flawless condition an features an amazing Worthington spray.
Could there be a rarer, finer example of a collectible surfboard.

Deus & Boardcollector present 'Surf Swap 8' Part 4.- Retro skate demo.
One of the highlight events of 'Surf Swap 8' being held on the 27th of September at Bondi Pavilion will be the Retro 70's skate demo.
Its on the schedule for 11.30am.
To be a part of it put your name down with Keith now k_lamotte@yahoo.com or by 10.00am on the day.
You'll need a late 70's style board and outfit. Prizes will be awarded for tricks such as headstands, tic-tacs, 360's, nose rides, , jump-up-switch-in's, walking the board.
Prizes will also be awarded for best outfits, so don't forget your long socks and short shorts.
If you don't have a 70's style board Keith will be selling part of his collection on the day.
Deus & Boardcollector present 'Surf Swap 8' Part 3.- Show and Shine.
The Deus / Boardcollector 'Surf Swap 8' is fast building momentum.
There is room for more than 100 boards to be displayed at the 'Show and Shine' so we should all bring along a handful to share.
My challenge lies in deciding what part of the collection to bring to display.
Do I bring a random assortment of favourites?
Or do I go with a theme?
The easy answer would be go with a theme, i.e,
'Lightning Bolt twin fins'
Or I could go,
'Energy thrusters'
More interesting is,
'Australia v's US made McCoys'
Gavin is inspired to go,
'Hawaiian provenance'
other possible themes could be:
• 'Shapers of Shire -'
• 'University of North Narabeen - Col, Simon, Terry etc'
• 'Echo beach - Californian classics, Stussy, Schroff, Wave tools, US McCoy'
My all time favourite theme would be,
'1982 Stubbies- MR twin fins, McCoy Lazor Zaps, Hot Stuff channel bottoms, Hawaiian T&C twin fins, Safari (Instinct) twin fins from South Africa etc.
Could just keep it simple and go,
'Twin fins from 1978 to 1983'
now for the fun part, getting in to the shed!

"Hi-sorry to bother you but I saw your info on the internet.
I bought a surfboard at a garage sale many years back.
My kids have just used it as a toy. I finally looked up Gerry Lopez as I had never heard of him .
Can you tell me if this board has any value?
Gerry Lopez himself was good enough to get in touch.
He said it looks likes a Lightning Bolt shaped under license (to Hobie in Dana Point) in the mid '70's. It was most likely shaped by Terry Martin (who recently passed away)

We have locked in the final details for Surf Swap 8 at Bondi Pavilion 27th of September.
They have locked me for a session in the shaping container called
"How NOT to shape a surfboard with Boardcollector"
Stu Nettle from Swellnet is going to be there as one of our 'expert appraisers'. Challenge his vast knowledge of surf trivia by bringing along your surf culture antiques for him to value and have him fill you in on its historical significance.
For example Sandon Dan dropped these 2 pieces in for us to sell on the Wall of Joy.
Hey Stu, how much is this signed, framed Micheal Peterson decal worth?
How about this original 70's poster of Peter Townsend with vintage water marks??

Michael Cundith shaped Sky twin fin.
I'm pleased to share with you my Michael Cundith shaped Sky twin fin. An odd shaped board with fins set close to the tail. Michael was a close friend and collaborator with George Greenough and the 'stubby' , high wide point nose is a direct connection to Greenough's knee boards.
Another common feature on MC's boards of this era are deep double concaves and saw cuts in the fins.
I had seem fins with cuts in them around for years and thought they were a backyard modifications done after the fact. It wasn't till recently that I connected Georges work with flexible fins, inspired by tuna fish fins, that I realised that MC's fin cuts were part of that same fin flex experiment.
The board is now in the hands of a friend who grew up surfing an almost identical model.
I'm excited to see what he going to find to swap me for it!
