Thats a wrap!
Despite some inclement weather a great day was had by all at the Deus / Boardcollector Surf Swap #8 at Bondi Pavilion on Sunday the 27th of September 2105.

Highlights for me were the live appraisals done over the mic.

We had visitors bring boards over they wanted to know a little bit more about, find out some history and get an estimate of their values.
Myself, Gav Scott and Stu Nettle were on hand to fall the crowd in what came out of the board bags.
It was a huge buss to scrape away some dirty wax to see signatures, by Micheal Peterson, by Simon Anderson and for Cheyne Horan.

The 'Show and Shine' went off a treat. It was great to see everybody's favourite sticks laid out to be admired.

Deus & Boardcollector present 'Surf Swap 8' Part 8. Show and shine preview.

The show and shine section of the Deus / Boardcollector Surf Swap 8 at Bondi Pavillion on Sunday 27th is going to be really exciting!

Gavin has sent a selection of pics of what he's bringing along to share with us.
Ex pro’s boards - Shaun Tomson’s 77-78 Barnsfield shaped 7’8” semi-gun for sunset, MP for Reg Riley, McCoy shaped 5’10” for Cheyne 1980

MP shaped early 80’s - possibly even circa 1982-83 even as apparently he did his last run of shapes with shaping company.
This board is believed to be Reg Riley’s board and is the only MP sighted so far with sponsors decals on it.
Previously very poorly restored - the obvious patches are remnants which couldn’t be cut out.
Recently stripped back to original and reglossed. Interesting to see the "no-nose” width in the nose at 11 1/2” wide!

Chronology of Simon Anderson shapes - from early Shane single fin to Energy single fin circa 1978-79, to first generation and 2nd generation energy thrusters

Al Byrne asymmetric tailed 6’4-6’8” Indo weapon, Gary McNabb shaped circa ’81 Thruster for Richard Cram

Deus & Boardcollector present 'Surf Swap 8' Part 7. Auction for refugees.

Four million Syrian refugees have now fled their homes into neighbouring countries. Desperation and poverty is forcing them to take the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean to find shelter in Europe.

Ken from Tassie wrote-
"This week I was saddened deeply by the sight of people trying to make their way to Europe. We saw the loss of a young boy washed up on the Turkish beach. We as Australians live by and enjoy the water in many ways, never having to flee our shores. I have had so much joy from the ocean... Sailing, surfing and working. I have decided to raise some money for people affected by this conflict by auctioning off one of my prized boards. A new original 6'6" '81 thruster" (as seen in the picture).

This has prompted us to stage a live auction to raise money for refugees.
From 12 noon, Sunday the 27th Bondi Pavilion.

Funds raised will be going to Australia for UNHCR. An Australian charity that raises funds to support the work of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Australia. Their purpose is to provide life-changing humanitarian support to refugees and other displaced and stateless people who come under the care and protection of the UN Refugee Agency.

In addition to Ken's Simon Anderson we will be auctioning-

- 5'10" Aloha to Zen twin fin shaped by Damion Fuller.

- $300 gift voucher from Deus Ex Machina.

- Donation from Bob McTavish.

- Donation from Channel Islands.

and many more!

Come by, score a bargain and help raise money to support the refugees.

The twin fin I'll be donating to the auction features artwork by Fern Levack and celebrates the greats of ocean conservation.

I've made my decision.
I've committed to a theme.

1978 to 1982.
US and Australian.
Come by and check them out!

Deus & Boardcollector present 'Surf Swap 8' Part 5. Show and shine.

I just had my mind blown.

BOOM!

One of the most important icons of the innovation period of surfboard design, the Hot Buttered Drifta, Terry Fitzgerald's answer to Simon Anderson's Thruster and Geoff McCoy's Lazor Zap, the no nose double flyer widow maker just showed up ready for the show and shine at the Surf Swap 8 at Bondi pavilion on September 27th.

This rare and original example from 1981 - 82 is in flawless condition an features an amazing Worthington spray.
Could there be a rarer, finer example of a collectible surfboard.

Be sure to come check her out and have a chat to Mitchell about her origins and history.
